PENSION LEGISLATION
First Conference Committee on SB1
October 2013

By the time you receive this newsletter, the First Conference Committee on SB1 may have proposed a plan for changing the state retirement systems. After they make a proposal, the Illinois General Assembly must approve the proposal before it is sent to the Governor for his signature.

It is important that you contact the offices of your Representative, Senator, and the Governor to tell them what you would or would not like them to do. This can be done by regular mail, telephone, or email.

To find the contact information:
1. Call your County Clerk or County Election Board office.
2. Or, go online:

- Representative or Senator
www.ilga.gov click on ‘Members’
under the column for
House or Senate.
- Governor www.illinois.gov/gov
click on ‘Contact Us’.

To prepare for this contact, it may be helpful for you to review information in the RSEA monthly newsletters for January – June and August in 2013 and for October in 2012. Some of this information is also available on the Legislative Report page of the RSEA website www.rsea4u.org.

If you have family or friends who are concerned about your welfare, ask them to contact their elected officials regarding the proposed pension changes.
